Hey, Voop here.
This guide shows you how to restrict the functions of a Voop smartphone. Admins, team leaders and guardians can set-up this configuration for a kid in a care team that they have responsibility for.
Please note that the definition of a restricted smartphone can vary. This guide is focussed on showing you how to apply a more restrictive configuration on a kid’s smartphone, using the features that Voop offers. The precise levels of freedoms and restrictions that you want to apply to the smartphone is at your discretion.
Follow these steps:
Login to your Voop account here.
On the left hand side of the screen, click on the name of the kid whose smartphone you want to restrict the features for.
Go to ‘phone settings’ at the bottom of the screen.
Here, you can block all unknown calls (for phone numbers that aren’t saved in the phonebook on the kid’s smartphone), or you can add specific numbers to block.
You can also select ‘trusted number only’ and add the specific numbers that you’re happy for the kid to call - they won’t be able to call any numbers that aren’t explicitly added here. All of these changes will apply both to calls made by the smartphone, and people attempting to call the smartphone.
In ‘calling’, you can also block all phone calls and all video calls.
And, in ‘texting’, you can block all text messaging and group messaging.
In the ‘device features’ tab you can block the use of the camera, bluetooth and NFC for contactless payment. Click the back arrow in the top left-hand side of the screen.
Go to ‘web & apps’ in the bottom of the screen.
Click ‘categories and exceptions’ in the ‘content blocked’ tab.
Here you can block the smartphone from accessing specific types of websites and apps, by clicking on the pre-made categories on the right-hand side. Please note that these categories are not exhaustive for all types of content.
You can also block specific websites by typing them into the search box. Click ‘save’ to sync these changes with the smartphone.
You can also block the smartphone’s ability to access the Google Play Store and you can disable app downloads from the internet.
Once all of these changes have been made, the device will have very limited functionality for the kid. You can reverse these changes by working through the steps listed in this guide.
